Why Vijay Deverakonda Just Set the Gold Standard for Modern Grooms

Honestly, Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s wedding was a classic example of how the classic heritage wear is an undisputed king. In an era taken over by modern structured silhouettes, Vijay’s wedding wardrobe stands as a subtle reminder that Indian wedding attire can be equal parts dramatic, cinematic and show-stopping. While we completely understand the love for sleek suits and chic Indo-Western wear. Nothing compares to finely tailored sherwanis, minimalist yet elegant veshti sets, timeless dhotis and humble kurta sets.

Just days after casting a spell with the grandeur of his wedding day look, newly married Vijay Devarakonda posted images from his Pradhnaam and Mehendi ceremony. What stopped our heartbeat was how he kept his entire look cultural but with a playful twist, also urging us modern grooms to rethink their sartorial choices.

Below we give you reasons why I feel Vijay Deverakonda is by far the best-dressed Bollywood groom and shall remain so unless there comes somebody with similar courage to experiment with their wedding wear and opt out from the usuals.

Pradhanam & Mehendi: A Playful Take on Classic South Indian Groom Style

The South Indian superstar gravitated towards something distinctive yet rooted in modern luxury. Garment in question: his silk -printed draped veshti paired with a green -striped kurta, featuring a deep plunge line.

What breathed life into his Torani outfit apart from his jewellery was the embroidered jacket adorned with peacock, elephant and parrot motifs. The richly embroidered piece served not only as a beauty amplifier but also as a modern groom’s storytelling medium.

Styled with a kamarbandh so it adds structure to the drape, his entire mehendi and pradhanam look was rooted in tradition but laced with an individualistic spin.

Loved Vijay’s take on Mehendi style? I’m sure you would love our handpicked styles featuring printed sherwani sets and bundi kurta sets from the same designer, and our elegant and sophisticated veshti set from Masaba in serene ivory.

Sangeet Style: A Bold Warrior-Inspired Fashion Moment

The only thing that struck me after having flipped through Vijay’s majestic looks one after the other was the wardrobe. The wedding planner surely deserves a raise. If his wedding day attire leaned towards heritage aesthetics, his Sangeet look was governed by sheer sartorial drama.

For the glitterati evening, Vijay stepped out in a custom Falguni Shane Peacock outfit. His couture, a deep midnight-blue long velvet jacket embroidered with dragon motifs, dialled up the drama, bringing in a warrior-like aura. His colour-blocked blue silk cape layered over the jacket was intentional, to create a beautiful contrast.

While many would bet on his emerald necklace as the hero of the outfit, I think otherwise. Everything, starting from the choice of his couture colour to the use of dragon motifs and smart layering using a silk cape, worked an extra shift to bring out his power-driven look. It is also a clear indicator of Vijay’s sartorial choices as a groom for all his ceremonies is an outcome of his refined taste and intense research on what would make headlines.

For grooms-to-be inspired to make a majestic entry on your sangeet like Mr. Devarakonda, our range of sequinned black sherwani pieces commands a similar presence.

Wedding Ceremony: A Modern Maharaja Moment in Ivory

Amid layers of ornate temple jewellery and traditional wear, the wedding looked like a scene lifted straight from Indian mythology. For the wedding set in ITC Udaipur, Devarakonda arrived in ceremonial grandeur.

His ivory dhoti topped with a vermillion angavastram, complemented Rashmika’s rust silk Anamika Khanna saree bordered in red. Drawing from Hyderabad’s textile legacy with motifs inspired by temples and forests, Vijay’s wedding day outfit was an ode to India’s sacred architecture, lineage and power. Apart from the regalia of his jewellery comprising a traditional Oddiyanam (gold belt), classic Kaddukan gold studs, ornate gold kadas, chunky layered necklaces and golusu or gold anklet, Vijay made headlines for wearing alta.

For a man known for his intensity and hyper-masculinity, the choice of alta, which otherwise is deemed feminine and believed to be a sacred approval of stepping into a new transition of life for brides, seemed radical. It was a slow act of rebellion against gender bias and stigmas.

Reception Style: A Lesson in Understated Elegance

Vijay’s reception look was surprisingly subtle, letting minimalism prove its splendour. It was as if a purposeful move to lean onto something elegant, classy, and understated. With the fashion world constantly oscillating between the regalia of maximalist dressing and minimalist drama, Vijay’s look, designed by Jade by Monica and Karishma, comprising a classic veshti set, proved that sometimes all you need to turn heads is to go back to your roots.

If subtle elegance is more your style, a classic veshti set or a sharply tailored kurta ensemble from our handpicked edits can help recreate Vijay’s refined reception look.

While Vijay Devarakonda might have unwillingly started off experimenting with wedding wardrobes, switching to innovative and distinguishable attires instead of relying on the age-old classics, it will definitely inspire generations of grooms-to-be to take the experimental route. To dare come out of the box. To dare break free from their usuals.
